Shopify is one of the most prominent ecommerce platforms in the world thanks to its ease of setup and use. The platform continues to provide features and solutions that propel business owners toward success.

Through Shopify Partners, merchants can work with a pool of marketers, designers, developers, creatives, and experts to grow their businesses.

These experts offer a wide range of services including creating themes and apps, offering unique marketing advice, Shopify fulfillment, and more.

If you are selling online and need to expand your reach and convert your visitors to customers, Shopify Partners can help.

In the article, we will go through what Shopify Partners are, the benefits of Shopify Partners, and how you can become a Shopify Partner.

Who are Shopify partners?

Shopify Partners are individuals part of the Shopify Partnership Program. The program is made up of a pool of experts in different fields who work with Shopify to guide store owners to achieve more success. These experts include:

  • Marketers
  • Developers
  • Coders
  • Designers
  • Photographers
  • Influencers
  • Freelancers

They offer services that go from building apps and themes to recommending Shopify to new customers, sharing affiliate links, and so on. They enter into a contract with Shopify to help merchants grow their businesses and in return, they earn income every month.

Categories of the Shopify Partnership program

Here are the four main categories for the Shopify partnership program:

  • Shopify developers: Shopify developers understand the nits and grits of the Shopify store and create apps and tools that help merchants engage their customers and increase sales. So if your store lacks something, a Shopify developer can create an application or adjust your site’s functionality.
  • Shopify Marketing: If you need to define your audience, and optimize your campaigns, Shopify Marketers can employ better marketing strategies to increase your reach and drive sales.
  • Shop Designers: Think about everything from creating catchy designs and maintaining consistent branding that engages customers. With the help of Shopify Designers, you can get help with all your design needs. Designers typically work with developers.
  • Affiliate Marketing:  Affiliate marketers on Shopify can share affiliate links to attract more people to use Shopify and get paid when someone signs up to Shopify using the affiliate link.

Levels of the Shopify Partnership program

Apart from the above categories for the Shopify partnership program, there are also levels of Shopify partnership:

  • Shopify Partners: This is the entry-level where partners have access to unlimited text stores, marketing materials, and some new features. You can also be part of a collaborative community worldwide. For every service, whether a referral or an app designed, you earn a monthly commission.
  • Shopify Plus Partners: Shopify Plus Partners are experts who deliver excellent quality and performance. This level often includes agencies, enterprise consultants, and individuals.
  • Shopify Fulfillment Partners: Shopify Fulfillment Partners are experts that work within Shopify’s fulfillment network. These experts can work within or without the Shopify Partnership program.

How much can you earn as a Shopify Partner?

So how much can a Shopify partner earn? Well, the answer depends on your activities and contributions. In other words, your profits may vary depending on where you are located and where your business operates.

You can earn money through Shopify Partners in three significant ways:

  • Referring new merchants to Shopify
  • Making Shopify applications in the Shopify App Store
  • Creating ecommerce themes and distributing them in the Shopify theme store.

Contributing to Shopify apps gets you 100% of all income from recurring subscription payments, one-time payments, app purchases, or upgrades on the first $1 million. You get 85% of total revenue on revenue above $1 million.

If you sell in Shopify Themes, you get 100% of the total revenue on the first $1 million and 85% above $1 million.

If you create a store for a Shopify merchant, you get a recurring commission that is equal to 20% of the merchant's monthly subscription fee.

If you’re an affiliate marketer, and you refer to your audience, you earn a commission for each person that uses your unique affiliate link.

Keep in mind that Shopify may charge taxes depending on your location.

How much does a Shopify Partner account cost?

What’s great about Shopify Partners is that it is free. This means there are no registration or subscription fees required.

How to measure the success of your Shopify partnership

So you have your Shopify Partners dashboard all set up and you’ve selected your preferred programs. How can you measure how successful your Shopify Partnership is?

There are several metrics you can use to track your Shopify Partnership success. However, here are a few important metrics you should use to assess the success of your Shopify Partnership:

  • Lead Conversion rate: Your lead conversion rate measures how many leads are converted to customers within a period - typically within 30 days. With this metric, you can see how successful your campaigns are. Here’s the formula to calculate your lead conversion rate:

Conversion Rate = (Number of new customers in the last no. of days ÷ number of leads in the previous no. of days) x 100

  • Lead Velocity rate: Want to forecast your revenue growth? Your lead velocity rate measures real-time sales performance. To calculate lead velocity rate:

Lead velocity rate = (Number of qualified leads this month – number of qualified leads last month) ÷ number of qualified leads last month x 100

  • Monthly Recurring Revenue: Your monthly recurring revenue metric represents your actual revenue. It lets you know if your leads are converting to real customers within a period. To calculate MRR:

MRR = Number of customers x average billed amount.

  • Average Revenue Per User: This metric measures how much revenue each user generates. You can use this metric to forecast revenue growth and analyze campaign success. To measure your average revenue per user, divide your monthly recurring revenue by your active users.
